Hey everyone, this is Jen Dantas! Today I want to share with you an incredible fact I discovered while here in Florida and watching the construction of new homes: many of the homes here are made of wood, not masonry.
It's fascinating to explore how different the experience of living in the US can be, isn't it? When I arrived, I was also surprised, but I soon realized that it has everything to do with the climate and seismic characteristics of the place.

Have you ever wondered why so much wood? The reason is simple: safety and climate adaptation. In California, for example, wood is safer during earthquakes because it's more flexible and lightweight, reducing the risk of collapse.
Here in Florida, the same logic applies, especially with the upper floors of homes. Imagine having a space to shelter during hurricanes and still feel safe? That's exactly what happens with buildings here.
